Tookan: Review + Top 5 Alternatives

Tookan is flexible but has reliability and cost issues. This guide compares five alternatives—Routific, Route4Me, Circuit, OptimoRoute, and Onfleet—so you can choose wisely.

- Tookan is a delivery management platform that’s suitable for restaurant deliveries, with a range of add-ons that add flexibility.
- Users report reliability issues and poor customer service.
- Routific is noted for excellent route optimization and customer support. It lacks some advanced delivery management features like barcode scanning.
- Route4Me also offers a flexible system with extensive add-ons, but can be expensive. It also falls short in route optimization accuracy and customer experience.
- Circuit is popular among drivers, with a very user-friendly design. Its route optimization is not the best, though.
- OptimoRoute is known for unique features suitable for field services, though it has a learning curve.
- Onfleet targets larger businesses and has robust features, but its pricing is inflexible and expensive.
Tookan provides a delivery management platform. The base product is well-suited to restaurant food delivery, but it also comes with a lot of add-ons and integrations that seem to make it a flexible option for a wide range of business needs.
However, this flexibility comes at a price: When you add up the cost of extra modules, the Tookan app can be expensive.
There are also big question marks over whether Tookan, and its parent company Jungleworks, can actually deliver everything they promise.
In this article, we’ll give an overview of Tookan, then look at its main strengths and weaknesses, and what their customers say on well-known review sites like Capterra and G2. We’ll also suggest alternatives for different business uses.
We include the most recent pricing information for each alternative at the time of writing this article, but price points and pricing models do change from time to time. It’s always worth checking the original website for the most recent information.
An overview of Tookan
The core functionality of Tookan, without any of the additional features, is easy assignment and tracking of pickup and delivery tasks to what they call “delivery agents”.
There are several components to the system:
- A desktop app, called the Tookan dashboard, for managers, owners, and dispatchers so they can assign and manage deliveries and agents/driver from one screen.
- A mobile agent app.
- An online booking form for customers to request pickups or deliveries,
- A mobile app for customers.
Tookan’s strengths
One of the big draws of Tookan is that all the apps can be white labeled. This is useful if, say, you’re a local or regional restaurant chain and you want to offer your own branded app so customers can order deliveries from you directly. Avoiding third-party apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash helps keep more of your revenue in-house. On the other hand, it can be a lot to manage, and there may be pushback from customers who don’t want to download yet another app.
Tookan also advertises a large range of integrations to e-commerce platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento as well as payment gateways like Stripe, Payfast and Square. If you accept orders from third-party delivery apps like Grubhub, it can also automatically extract order details from emails and add them to the delivery management system.
Tookan’s weaknesses
On the downside (and it’s a big one), Tookan’s customer service and business practices are rated poorly. Reading between the lines of the reviews, it seems they tend to overpromise and underdeliver. For example, one user complained that the advertised Stripe integration didn’t actually work.
This is underlined when we look at their website. Depending on which page you look at, Tookan can do last mile delivery management, fleet tracking, field workforce management, AND delivery orchestration across multiple logistics providers. That’s… a lot. Those are four very different specialised fields, and we don’t know of any other software company that claims to be an expert in all of them.
There are also lots of reported reliability issues and downtime.
Finally, Tookan is not the best choice for multi-stop route planning. This is where route optimization becomes important — and with Tookan, route optimization is a paid extra provided via an entirely different app called mappr.
Here’s what their customers say:
Tookan customer reviews
“We have the service integrated with our restaurant ordering system. Everything is straightforward and smooth: Drivers sign up, order assignment, and delivery … Pricing is suitable for all sizes including small businesses and startups.” — Ahmad A, restaurant owner
“Looks very good and promises to be all what you need to deploy a delivery business, but after you pay, the hell starts, no answer to enquiries.” — Bogdan T, CEO, midmarket
“One of the worst business experiences I’ve ever had.” — Dimitris M, Food & Beverage industry.
“It does the job if your needs are veeeery veery basic. Like, you just need to keep a record of deliveries (but you're better off using Excel for record keeping than Tookan). This software is plain old horrible if you're anything bigger than a small business as it is absolutely not reliable and crashes almost all the time, one way or another. Something is always broken for some reason.” — Sadid R, Founder, SMB
Tookan pricing

Tookan offers four different pricing tiers:
- Startup: $99 per month, with 1,000 pickup and delivery tasks included. Extra tasks are 15c each.
- Growth: $249 per month, with 3,000 pickup and delivery tasks included. Extra tasks are 13c each.
- Standard: $349 per month, with 6,000 pickup and delivery tasks included. Extra tasks are 11c each.
💡 Important note: Each pickup and delivery counts as a separate task. In other words, completing an order — pickup from a restaurant and delivery to a customer’s home — will count as two tasks.
This pricing looks very economical — but it’s not the whole story. To get anything but the most basic level of service you will need to pay extra:
- Route optimization (essential for planning multi-stop delivery routes) costs an extra 12 cents per task.
- ETAs start at $49 per month. Dispatch management of any complexity is really hard to do without this.
- Spreadsheet upload starts at $1,000 per month. This is basic functionality in any other route planning app.
- Real-time tracking using vehicle tracking devices is $15 per vehicle per month. If fleet management is important to you, these costs will add up fast.

Summary
Tookan is an option to consider for small-scale restaurant delivery services and similar businesses. But it’s not a strong option for route optimization or advanced delivery management.
Based on Tookan’s complex pricing structure and poor user reviews, we’d hesitate to recommend it for businesses with more sophisticated needs.
Even at the smallest scale, Routific or Circuit for Team might be better choices because they offer better ease of use and customer service.
For larger operations that need reliable last mile delivery managment, we’d prefer Onfleet, Routific, Route4Me, or OptimoRoute.
Read on for more information about each of these alternatives to Tookan.
Tookan alternative 1: Routific

Routific is delivery management software that's designed for small- to medium-sized businesses that do local deliveries. In addition to route optimization, it includes a number of other features that are important if you want to simplify your delivery operations:
- Spreadsheet upload, multi-stop route planning, driver tracking, and proof of delivery are all standard features.
- Routific offers accurate ETA estimates based on machine learning.
- Driver apps for iOS and Android are free.
Route optimization is Routific’s standout strength. It’s not just about more efficient routes — it’s about making life easier for drivers and route managers alike. That means right-first-time routes that are driver-friendly, and easy to edit if needs change. It also means a web app interface that’s easy for dispatchers to use, with a choice between map and timeline views that make it easy to see all the day’s work at a glance.
Routific’s customer support is also highly rated, something that’s particularly important in businesses that don’t have dedicated IT teams.
What Routific can’t do (yet)
- Multi-day planning
- Return to depot (although there are workarounds for this)
- In-app driver chat
- Barcode scanning
- Direct communication between drivers and customers
If any of these features are deal-breakers for you, then Routific is not the right choice for your business right now.
Routific customer reviews
“Great route optimization by 1.000+ orders a day - Easy to edit routes - Very easy upload functionality.” — Swier P, Logistics and supply chain account manager.
“The ease of use, simplicity, and customer service is second to none. I have tried and demoed every routing tool out there and none come close to Routific with ease of use and simplicity.” — Morgan H, SMB CEO
“It's intuitive, it has awesome features like the client notifications, and everytime I had a question I was serviced in a very comprehensive and friendly fashion. They didn't stop until I said I was satisfied.” — Jonathan K, SMB owner.
“Platform was straightforward and easy to use for the admin and drivers. Clean and user friendly, functional and not ‘cluggy’ like some of the other platforms I have trialled.” — Andy L, midmarket managing director.
Routific pricing

Routific’s freemium pricing model is based on the number of orders scheduled.
- The first 100 orders every month are free, to accommodate the needs of very small businesses, non-profits, and occasional users.
- 100-1,500 orders: $150 a month.
- Above 1,500 orders we charge a few cents per stop. Pricing starts at 15c a stop up to 2,000 orders a month, going down to 3c a stop for more than 20,000 orders a month.
All our features are available at all price points, including:
- Unlimited drivers and dispatchers
- Intelligent route optimization
- Driver mobile apps for Android and iOS
- Real-time GPS tracking system
- Customer notifications via email
- Delivery tracker for customers
- Photo and signature proof of delivery
Capterra rating: 4.9 (130+ reviews)
Tookan alternative 2: Route4Me

Route4Me is one of the original SaaS-based route planning and route optimization tools. Like Tookan, it has a marketplace of add-on modules so that it’s easily customizable to different e-commerce business needs — although we’d say Route4Me has a more mature and reliable set of add-ons. For example, you can add on modules for curbside pickup, avoiding left or right turns, or for allocating stops to time windows. This makes Route4Me very flexible – although it can also get expensive.
Route4Me’s actual route optimization is weaker than Routific’s — although unlike Tookan, it’s not an add-on that costs extra.
In our tests Route4Me’s ETA estimations were also not very accurate. For example, on one route section that Routific and Google Maps both estimated would take 18-19 minutes, Route4Me estimated just 10 minutes. Route4Me routinely underestimates journey times, which can lead to late deliveries and a poor customer experience
Route4Me customer reviews
“We have different routes everyday and this has sped up the routing process greatly. Easy to use and train new employees”. — Jacob A, midsize warehouse manager.
Route4Me has allowed us to streamline a huge part of our business saving us hours of work a day. The support is quick, helpful and always available. — G2 verified user, SMB.
I don't think the optimisation is the best. — Kofi A, SMB director.
The optimization is off always. I have stopped using it for that. — Vaughn A, SMB president.
Occasionally routes to incorrect address. — Lori P, SMB customer service.
Route4Me pricing

There are three Route4Me pricing tiers:
- Basic route optimization starts at $400 a month for a 5-user plan. This allows optimization for one driver or route at a time, but won’t optimize across routes or depots.
- For multi-driver and multi-depot optimization, you’ll need the $600 per month plan.
- Custom configuration and pricing for enterprise customers is also available.
Additional modules like SMS customer notifications, curbside delivery, or field service routing are add-ons that will increase the cost.
There is a 7-day free trial with unlimited functionality.
Capterra rating: 4.4 (380+ reviews)
Tookan alternative 3: Circuit

Circuit started out as a mobile route planning app for delivery drivers, later adding Circuit for Teams for delivery businesses with multiple vehicles and drivers. The original driver app has over 100,000 users around the world, which means a lot of drivers are familiar with it. This, along with a very user-friendly interface, can make a delivery manager or dispatcher’s job a lot easier.
Circuit has one standout feature that drivers love: A package finder. At the loading stage, each package can be marked front/middle/back, left/right, and floor/shelf. This can help save a lot of time at each delivery stop.
On the downside, Circuit lacks some features for larger businesses that need to plan multiple, complex routes.
- You can’t edit routes once they’ve been optimized. Individual drivers can change stop order inside their mobile apps, but it’s not possible at the planning stage.
- Routes are messy, with a lot of crisscrossing and overlap.
- The tools for planners and dispatchers are lacking: There’s no timeline view, and it can be difficult to get an overall sense of how the day’s deliveries are going.
Circuit customer reviews
“I love how easy Circuit is to use. It is user friendly and easy to understand.” — Hannah H, SMB business owner.
“Circuit is improving all the time. It is a great product for the price, and the team seems to actively be working to upgrade it. Their customer service is accessible and they listen and work to fix any issues that arise.” — Katherine H, midmarket sales professional
“Overall the multiple clicks to add a stop, make changes to a route is a bit cumbersome. It would be nice to streamline that process.” — Derek N, midmarket retail Manager
“I do not like that sometimes when the routes are being created, they aren't always equally distributed between the drivers. Sometimes I have to manually adjust the route to better meet the needs of the drivers.” — Mario M, non-profit Program Manager
Circuit pricing

Like Routific, Circuit offers a flexible per-stop pricing model, although Circuit’s pricing is a little more complex:
- The Starter plan is $100 a month for up to 500 stops, then 4c per stop.
- The Essentials plan is $200 a month for up to 1,000 stops, then 5c per stop — but it offers a restricted feature set, with no customer notifications or POD.
- The Standard plan includes notifications and POD at $250 up to 1,000 stops, then 6c per stop.
- The Pro plan is $300/month up to 1,000 stops, then 7c per stop.
Capterra rating: 4.8 (100+ reviews)
Tookan alternative 4: OptimoRoute

OptimoRoute is a powerful routing app with a lot of flexibility, and some unique features — but it does take some time to learn and understand.
Some of its standout features are:
- Return to depot / reload at depot.
- A "breadcrumb” feature to track actual vs planned vehicle movements.
- Individual driver profiles with shift schedules (including breaks and overtime), start/end locations, skills, vehicle types, service areas, cost and speed settings.
- Customers can rate their delivery experience and leave comments.
This makes OptimoRoute a particularly good option for field sales and service organizations.
Despite some of these advanced features, OptimoRoute falls short when it comes to actual multi-stop route optimization. In our tests we noted some poor route quality, and it was difficult to edit routes.
OptimoRoute customer reviews
“Routing improved and streamlined, bottom line increased, product pays for itself many times over.” — Jonathan S
“OptimoRoute is a very robust delivery service App. You can organize your deliveries very quickly and the system has never failed a driver when they are on the road.” — G2 reviewer
“The maps are outdated, and I almost ALWAYS have to fix the route. It marks roads that are not roads, are blocked off, or it will label a creek or wash (Arizona) as a road.” — Eric H
“The software can be complex to set up and use initially. The interface may not be as intuitive as some other route planning software, which could result in a steeper learning curve.” — Edson Q
OptimoRoute pricing

OptimoRoute’s Pro plan starts at $49 per driver per month (or $44.10 if you sign up for an annual subscription). This includes real-time tracking and proof of delivery.
There is a limit of 1,000 orders per day, which is low for a medium-sized business — and would require many drivers, with additional cost for each one.
OptimoRoute offers a generous 30-day free trial, but it’s limited to 250 stops, so it’s hard to assess how performance will scale.
Capterra rating: 4.6 (200+ reviews)
Tookan alternative 5: Onfleet

Onfleet mainly serves mid-size to enterprise customers in the 11-1,000 users range. They’re a mature business with a strong user base.
Onfleet’s standout features include:
- Automatic driver assignment for on-demand deliveries. This enables customer self-service and makes Onfleet a good option for courier businesses.
- A live chat option inside the driver mobile app, so it’s easy for dispatchers and drivers to communicate without opening a new app or window.
- Customers can also communicate directly with drivers, without sharing phone numbers.
- Detailed driver analytics, including actual vs planned stop duration, and on-time vs late deliveries.
Onfleet’s main weaknesses are related to cost, ease of use and inconsistent route optimization:
- Most of the complaints we hear from Onfleet users are about poorly optimized routes, with lots of criss-crossing and inaccurate addresses. Compounding the problem, users report that it’s difficult to make changes to Onfleet’s routes.
- The platform is complex and requires training to get started. There’s also no timeline view, which can make daily delivery management more difficult.
- It’s expensive, and their pricing is inflexible. The $599 per month starting price excludes many smaller businesses, and there’s a big jump to the next tier at $1,299 per month. This can leave some of their customers having to choose between paying for overages, or paying for capacity they don’t use.
Onfleet customer reviews
“Easy to use and our delivery drivers really appreciate the easy access to maps when they are delivering. Onfleet support has been great!” — Dave H, small business Operations Director
“Modern logistics platform for serious on-demand companies.” — James W, cofounder, midsize construction company.
“Onfleet gives a ton of control to both the driver and the dispatcher. There is a large degree of freedom when it comes to assigning and completing tasks, creating different driver teams, and allowing drivers to contact recipients.” — Marquise D, small business owner.
“The route optimization is definitely not 100% and occasionally throws up some odd routes which would require amphibious delivery vehicles.” — Brett K, midmarket Director.
“Things that should be commonplace are considered extra add-ons which can increase your price”. — Robbin C, midmarket Distribution Manager
Onfleet pricing

Onfleet is expensive, and their pricing is inflexible.
